Congratulations on your pregnancy! Bringing a baby into the world is a wonderful life event that should be captured. It's a stage of your life you are going to want to remember forever and share with your little one once he or she is older. Having a professional maternity session may seem like just another item to add to your prep list, but a maternity shoot can be a perfect time to also remind you of the power and beauty of your body during this beautiful journey.
SCHEDULE YOUR SESSION EARLY! The earlier you book your session the better. https://www.karinaneillphotography.com/newborn-maternity Your best bet to book your maternity session is around 20 weeks when you find out the gender of your baby. The actual photo session takes place between 31-36 weeks as your tummy should have popped and have a beautiful shape by then.
2- We know how important it is to moisture those knees, elbows and belly, but we recommend you do so 1-2 hours before the session to avoid any shininess or sticky clothes.
3-You should avoid wearing tight fitting watches or bracelets that might leave marks on your skin on your hands.
4- PAMPER YOURSELF! Get a natural or light color manicure 1-2 days before your session so we can capture some beautiful portraits with your hands on your tummy. Continue to pampering with a hair and make up stylist. I have a very talented stylist in studio and she makes sure bring your inner beauty for your maternity session. All these details are planned during your session design and we choose the best hair and makeup style for you.
5- If you already have some cute baby items such as shoes, hats, toys, blankets, onesies, family heirlooms, etc, bring them along as they make unique and adorable props.
6-Take the time to pick the right outfit for your maternity session. First, you should be comfortable, second it should fit your style and speak to your heart. Make sure your clothing doesn't detract from your tummy's shape and your natural glow and beauty. Avoid large bold patterns, logos, neon colors or clothing that is too loose. Empire waists, drawstrings, flowing tops, bodysuits and wrap dresses are perfect for enhancing your shape. A more minimalist and elegant style can be accomplished with the use of beautiful and soft fabrics like silk. My clients have access to my studio closet of maternity dresses and unique fabrics!
7- I encourage my clients to bring their husbands to the session for a few portraits! Nothing better than capturing that beautiful love story!
8- Get plenty of rest the night before the session. It can be hard to get decent sleep during pregnancy, but if you are able to, go to bed early and try to get a full night's sleep. That way you will be refreshed and relaxed at your session the next day.
